Nutrience and Rolf C. Hagen Inc. Donate Significantly to Historic Dog Emergency Shelter

MONTREAL (Sept. 27, 2011) - Nutrience and its parent company, Rolf C. Hagen Inc. (Hagen), are proud to announce over $30,000 worth of food and essential supplies have been donated to the emergency shelter recently set-up in Lachute, Quebec to house over 500 dogs. The dogs were seized from a commercial breeding facility near Shawville, Quebec earlier this month by Humane Society International/Canada, the Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation du Québec and local law enforcement.

The rescue, which was the largest of its kind in Canadian history, created an urgent need for supplies such as food, blankets, bowls, grooming tools and toys.  As a primary contact prior to the operation, Nutrience and Hagen did not hesitate to provide an initial donation worth $15,000. Once the dogs were safely transported to the emergency shelter, members of the Nutrience/Hagen team were invited to tour the facility. After this visit, the team felt compelled to provide an additional donation of $15,000 in food and supplies.

"Nutrience and Rolf C. Hagen Inc. have donated over a million dollars in food and supplies to rescue groups and shelters across Canada for many years.  In continuing with this tradition, a sheltering operation of this magnitude warranted an equally substantial donation, for which we were happy and fortunate to offer. After visiting the emergency shelter personally, I can say without hesitation that I am very impressed with the high level of professionalism and concern exemplified by the staff caring for these animals. We are comforted to know that our resources are being put to good use, and proud to play a large role in promoting responsible pet care," stated Mark Hagen, Director of Research at Rolf C. Hagen Inc.

As a company, Hagen believes that all animals deserve to live within the most humane conditions, regardless if they are in the care of a breeder, veterinarian, pet store or family. Nutrience remains committed to supporting shelters and rescues of all sizes across Canada, and would like to thank all those who support the brand as it continues to help feed pets in need.

Humane Society International/Canada, primarily responsible for the care of the hundreds of dogs currently residing in the Lachute shelter, is calling on the public and private companies to visit www.hsicanada.ca/savedogs to find out how they can help give these animals the second chance they deserve.
